Loved each and every part of this book. I will definitely recommend this book to horror, young adult lovers. Your Rating:. Your Comment:. Stine Submitted by: Jane Kivik. For me, the scariest Fear Street books were always the supernatural ones.
Those were the ones that got in my head, under my skin, and occasionally into my nightmares. The Secret Bedroom ticks all the right boxes on this point. The plot builds slowly in a way that I enjoyed, with the creepy old house setting the perfect atmosphere for building that kind of tension. Her love interest Don was believably spinel For me, the scariest Fear Street books were always the supernatural ones.
Her love interest Don was believably spineless. The blending of supernatural elements with petty high school bullshit was a nice touch, and it made for a pretty brutal death scene. I also had some spoiler-laced questions about how a few things happened. The Secret Bedroom, while not perfect, made for one of the more interesting books in the Fear Street series so far.
Score: 3. Aug 25, Jaime rated it liked it. I was a huge R. Stine fan in my early teens! I loved all the fear street books! They are what got me into reading again! Jan 18, Mike rated it liked it Shelves: series , horror , young-adult , ghosts , supernatural.
Fast-paced and spooky, with actual supernatural elements, which might be a first for the series. Mar 28, Liliana rated it liked it Shelves: horror , paperback-hardcover , ghosts-souls-spirits , mystery , fear-street , paranormal-supernatural , young-adult.
Reviewed on Lili Lost in a Book This book The first half of the book was full of romance I did not care about. And embarrassment, so much embarrassment This book just gave me serious secondhand embarrassment. Why would you do that? This drove me insane! Literally the first half of the book was just Lea briefly wondering about the mysterious door in her attic, and mostly about this guy Don asking her out then breaking the dates because of his already-existing girlfriend.
Number one, Lea is an absolute idiot for falling for this guy who I admit was nice in the beginning who keeps breaking the dates. Which brings me to number two, he is already with someone else! WTF are you doing asking another girl out? Break up with your current girlfriend first, you dick!
Homegirl over here is trying to steal her man! I totally get it! I was so over Don! He needed to get his shit together and either drop Marci or leave Lea the hell alone.
The ghost of a little girl. Keeping in mind that this is a Fear Street book and that ghost is most likely evil. And guess what, it turns out that the ghost is evil! They go visit Marci and the ghost scares her a bit, but then Marci has an accident and she dies!
I knew it was going to happen! But anyway, I really enjoyed that! I love Deena and I loved seeing her in this book! And it was really funny because at one point Lea is freaked out, home alone, and she calls Deena to come over and I had a horrible experience on Fear Street last year! Thomas, was the realtor who sold Lea and her family the house! That was pretty cool! Thomas said, brightening.
Ricky Schorr from The Overnight also made a very brief appearance. Overall, this book was I liked the mystery and the fact that there was a supernatural element to this book—that was awesome! I loved Deena being in this book too! So the house is big and ramshackle and a wreck. That doesn't make it evil. I really liked the plot of this book, but one thing kept me from giving it three stars. I wish we were told how Catherine became a ghost. Is that when she killed her parents?
Was she telling the truth and she was born out of wedlock? Also, Lea better not even think about dating Don Jacobs.
He helped his girlfriend humiliate her. Although, to be fair, the book doesn't say she will date him I really liked the plot of this book, but one thing kept me from giving it three stars. Although, to be fair, the book doesn't say she will date him. She only smiles when she hears he's been worried about her. Feb 23, Meag rated it really liked it.
Aug 27, Thomas rated it liked it. I took a bit of a break from these after burning myself out on reading a few longer ones in a row but I'm back with this one. I even picked it myself instead of going to the randomizer since I wanted to go with one I actually wanted to read.
This one's claim to fame is that Stine claims he wrote this one in 8 days. Oddly, I didn't quite feel that until the end. It's a supernatural one and that works out fine. Lea's friend is one of the best I've ever seen in these, she's like, actually helpful and nice to Lea.
Frankly, I was hoping they'd hook up in the end. The end is where it does start to fall apart. The very ending is almost weirdly satisfying but not quite because of how the rushed the climax and how certain things aren't fully established enough. Overall, a few of the usual clunky bits but still generally good with some of the better writing. He even once uses a word I had to look up, never thought that would happen Side note, Deena was actually previously the protagonist of The Wrong Number.
Usually established characters only show up for an extended cameo at best but here fills a decently notable role through a decent bit of it. That was interesting, this is usually closer to what Strange Matter does.
Speaking of continuity, Suki Thomas' mom appears in this, but she doesn't, she's only mentioned. That was weird but neat. So much for "the short version". View all 3 comments. Again with the incredibly foolish lead character! OK, so I try to remind myself that sometimes teenagers are silly and make poor choices. But like, in her narration she is clearly aware that she needs to give up on the boy who basically keeps setting her up to get bullied, whether intentionally or through sheer spinelessness. And yet! Every time he calls, she comes running, and then is shocked!
Shocked when it backfires! But anyway, the story kept me interested and was quite spooky! I also l Again with the incredibly foolish lead character! I also liked that there are crossover characters in this book!
Though I had to look them up to get the reference because I read these books so far apart. Deena and Jade from The Wrong Number appear as side characters in this book. Spoilers about the ending ahead: view spoiler [Is this the first Fear Street book with actual supernatural events in it?? Or am I forgetting earlier ones. I feel like it's always been a human murderer or an elaborate prank, etc. I kept expecting the ending to be something like Lea has actually lost her mind and is the killer!
But nope, actual ghosts. Or is it?? I guess the whole fever dream thing does leave that a bit open. This one didn't do it for me. The main character was annoying. Lea moves into a new home with her family and the realtor shows them this door that has been boarded up in the attic for years Of course this piques Lea's interest.
When she goes to bed, she starts hearing noises in the attic so she goes up there to be nosy and gets frightened
